Abstract | A fully regenerative current controlled AC/DC converter topology using an uncontrolled two-quadrant rectifier feeding a four-quadrant chopper is proposed. The PWM (pulsewidth-modulation) pattern is generated by direct armature current control. No DC bus filter is required. The system has a very rugged power and control structure, with very fast current response and instantaneous power reversal capability. Operation is almost insensitive to AC input voltage unbalances and DC bus ripple. Design considerations are presented. Simulation results confirm the feasibility and predicted performance of the proposed converter topology and control circuit |
